Double Bass Shure SM 27 anyone with experience recording DB

Hey,
I've just learned that the Shure SM 27 has replaced the KSM 27 mic. They're both large diaphragm condenser mics and have virtually the same specs. The mic provides a side address cardioid pattern. $300
Does anyone have opinions as to the quality and results of this mic for recording DB in the studio (not live)?

Seems to me ( I am no expert ) that a end fire mic would be the way to go. That way only the bass sound is picked up. I use that approach. I received an email from Bob Heil and he recommended his Heil PR40 mic. I bought one and I am never going back to any other mic in or below that price range. I use to like the Electrovoice EV20 but now I am a Heil PR40 believer. Read the specs and email Bob Heil. He will give you more than enough information. It also works well live. It only picks up what it's pointed at, no other external noises from the side.

I am surprised more forum members have not tested this mic.
