Side dots?

Go to the hardware store and get some white reflective tape like you might put on something so it could be seen at night, lit by headlights.

Pull the backing off of a portion of the tape and punch out a dot with a 1/4" paper punch.

I use the tip of an X-Acto knife to transfer the dot to the side of the neck so I don't touch the adhesive with my fingers.

Put it in place and your done. I've done this on 11 of my 12 basses and the dots have held for years. They peel right off when necessary, leave no residue and show up really well in low level stage lighting.

Problem with any stick on dot markers is going to be felt bumps down side of neck. Useing a little bit of white car paint from car touch up pens would be good. Not enough to create felt bumps. Otherwise have a luthier drill little sink holes to be filled with whatever marker material desired.

Get some pearl side markers, drill the proper matching size hole with a drill, and glue in place. It really is an easy and permanent mod.
Oh and since it's a fretless put the dots on the fretline, makes life much easier.

pretty permanent, yet it can be easily removed if necessary

Use a drill press if your like this guy I know though, a certain person who drilled through the front of a banjo fretboard with a cordless. Not mentioning any names though.....:)

Hello skips... lately I've been sticking Blick stickers to the side of the neck, of course after an hour or so they start moving about. Has anyone got a more permanent solution?

I don't want side lights though.

euh  ... I don't get how they are moving ... since they are on the part that face you ...

This is a bit involved, but I use the avery labels. I use a leather hole punch tool, like for putting holes in a leather belt. This tool has a selection of punch sizes, I pick the one I want, punch out the hole from the avery labels, and using the round dot formed by the tool and place that on the side of the neck. I then use clear nail polish to coat the dot being careful not to move the dot. Let it dry and you have a nice white dot that stays where you put it. I like this so I can pick the size dot I want to see. A bit of work, but it does the job.
