Sigh... need help with computer again.

Paste, what have you been doing lately to get all these viruses? If you truly have been virus free for three years with no AV software and now you've had at least two major problems, you may want to change your browsing habits.

I got the FBI ransom virus from downloading an old game I used to play but apparently it was bought out by some sketchy people. I would say that's the users fault (me) for not checking if the game was still legit. This time I really have no idea where I got it from.

Hi,

"Cryptolocker" is a real threat that started spreading about the middle of September, IIRC. It's a nasty bug and we've had a few cases of it here at work. It encrypted an entire department's shared drive and that resource had to be restored from backup. Your antivirus won't catch it because it's not a traditional "virus".

It will encrypt your personal data on the local computer, then start encrypting any mapped network drives or external USB drives connected to your computer, and hold them hostage until you pay the ransom. Most of the time the crooks will send you the decryption key but then they have your credit card information.

This type of threat usually comes disguised as a PDF or other harmless-looking file attached to an email. The file is actually an executable file (*.exe) and as soon as you click on it, it starts its dirty work.

"There are no patches to undo CryptoLocker and, as yet, there’s no clean-up tool — the only sure way to get your files back is to restore them from a backup."

I used both tdsskiller and malwarebytes and it seemed to clean it up. Weird. Then again I don't use .doc, .xls, .ppt, .pst, .dwg, .rtf, .dbf, .psd, .raw, and .pdf. so suck on that virus!

Edit: ^ Yep that's the exact red screen that popped up on my computer.

It sounds like you got rid of the executable before it could do much damage. You're lucky.

We've had to wipe and reload those infected computers at work. Users don't like to call IT and tell them they've been infected until it's too late.

Let's be careful out there. ;)
