Signal chain

Hello all,

I just need a bit of help with the setup of my rig. I have been giging regularly with this setup for the past year and a half or so and it has been fine. But lately every now and again my sound will cut out, either completely or turn to a low muffle.

Here is my setup:

GenzBenz GBE600 Head with a DBX 166XL Compressor through the effects loop> then out the front of the head I run>wounded paw fuzz/overdrive>sansamp vt bass>sansamp bassdriver deluxe preamp> then through the loop of the bass driver I run a flanger>delay.

Is this a really complicated way to run my effects? Is the Sansamp bass driver deluxe in the right position, and finally do you think that this setup might be causing my sound to occaisionally cut out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Perhaps it would be better put this way

Yamaha RBX775 Bass>Sansamp BDD>Delay>Flanger(both through the sansamp loop)>VT bass>woundedpaw fuzz>Genz Benz GBE600 (with dbx 166xl comp through Genz Benz loop)

The muffle/cut-out is probably caused by a bad patch cable, or a bad connection inside one of the pedals. IOW a defect that needs repair, not a symptom of your signal chain.

The 166XL should go in the effects loop, it's a +4dBu line level device. This will minimize your noise from the comp. Remember that with a lot of compression your noise floor will rise by exactly the same amount that your maximum gain reduction meter indicates... ie. if you are using 12dB of gain reduction on peaks then your (steady state) noise floor will increae by exactly 12dB. I mention this because of the number of signal processing devices you are using which will contribute noise to your signal path.
