Silk colors

I just responded to your other thread already. Yes, they are the La Bella DTF 760FS (45-65-85-105).

Black silk only at the tuner end. The winding length on the E is shorter at 36.75" (ball end to silk) than the other three (38"). = La Bella 760FS.

Roundwound, short scale, gauges of 45-60-75-95 - I measured them myself.

Light yellow silks at headstock end, no silks at ball end, brass balls.

Bass is a Jay Turser JTB-40, 30" scale, but I doubt that these are the factory strings.



Pics were taken by the previous owner, for his ad to which I responded.

Though pretty good as far as rounds go, these are not on the bass anymore.

I replaced them with LaBella 760FL-S [43-60-82-104] Deep Talkin' Flats - MUCH better, IMO !

It's hard to tell in the pic, but what color(s) are those ball ends?

To me, they all look like plain brass.

Since fewer makers maker proper short scale strings of any style, and these seemed pretty good as I said, I'm still curious.

Gauges seem wrong for DR, though they have a similar colour of silk.

They're not DR for sure. Their rounds don't come with silk at all; only the Legend Flats do.

Sorry, but I don't have an answer for you at this point. Can't think of any short scale rounds with yellow silk that come in those specific gauges.

I looked again last night and found nothing online either.

BTW, the DR short scale rounds - are they supposed to have coloured balls ?

I found a set of rounds laying out in my back room which are like that, and no silks at all.

1 green
2 black
3 red
4 brass

They might be the strings which I took off my Hofner Ignition Club.

IIRC, its last owner told me that he had installed DR, and whatever was on that bass [when I got it] fit properly insofar as where the headstock tapers began, at 33.5 or 33.75 inches as DR publishes.

I did not uncoil any of the set which I found last night, to measure them.

I think I have an answer for you...

GHS Boomers "short scale" do come in those specific gauges (45-60-75-95) and they DID come with gold silk at the tuner end up until a few years ago. The new ones now come with the same red silk as "long scale".

It's hard to tell from the pic, but are they roundwound? Do they have silk at the ball end?

That silk is dark shade of red, isn't it? They look to me like GHS Boomers.

GHS is what I was thinking and, I think, what had been called out in the past, so I think you're correct.

One thing to note...

Both the regular Boomers (hex core) and the Round Core Boomers come with the same red silk and there is no way of distinguishing the two simply by looking at them.

I recently pulled out my old MM Stingray 5-str that I haven't played in a few years, and the strings are still really live sounding. These string are several years old and I don't remember who made these, so I'm hoping someone here might have a suggestion.

Disregard the D-string, as it looks like I replaced a broken one with a D'Addario XL.

The silk colors on the Roto Nexus are a little different. Besides, the Nexus are coated in black polymer.

They are the only ones I know of that have the multi colored silks. Someone will have the right answer sooner or later.

I have to admit this is a tough one. I've never seen a set of strings with those particular combination of silk colors.

Could be. The only Peavey strings I have any experience with had black silk. They were the elements stainless steels.
