Silks on Saddles , Problem or Not...

Update: I put new La Bella Low Tension flats (LTF-4A-S) on my Sire U5, using top-of-bridge stringing, and replaced the 760-F-MUS strings, strung via Thru-body. (See OP). LaBella was very generous in sending me the replacement string set. They fit fine, feel great and sound amazing. Thank you LaBella.

Sorry, I missed this and started another thread about this exact topic. Mine is on a reverend Sentinel and the thing that still seems strange to me is that it’s also my D string that the silk seems to be too long. .

At this point, I think I’m deciding to be fine with it. I need to play more, but I’ve now played for about 40 minutes and just cannot hear any difference with the D string, as far as sustain or anything else. I actually love the sound of the strings, I’m bothered because it somehow seems wrong but I’m gonna give it some time to really confirm if I can hear a difference and if not might just chalk it up to part of the secret sauce

You may be OK with it as is, though a ball end space on the D string might cinch it. I think as long as the silk doesn't extend over the saddle notch where the sounding string hinges, the string should be OK. From my pic at the OP you can see that mine definitely went over the notch, and perhaps that's why the sustain and tuning sounded compromised.

I’m still just super curious why the issue is on the D string?
