In etude no. 5 what does the first group of notes in the fourth bar value?

Are you talking about in the book of 30 etudes? The fourth measure of etude 5 has a quarter note, a half note and a quarter (which is tied across the measure to the first beat of the 6th measure).

Oops! I meant the Hrabe 86 etudes that was edited by Zimmerman and simandl!

If you can imagine it's two semi quavers connected by 16th note beams?

Hi Bass cat It's the same as the second bar only alternating between C and Bb.
