Simple Basslines that are incredibly important

Yes sir, I can play it, but when I think simple, I think about lines an absolute beginner (2 weeks of playing) can play easily.

Once you get it, the line is fun and recognizable, but when I started couldn't even grasp the concept of dead notes being used like that.

Mudshovel by Staind off of the album Dysfunction is good example of simple playing that fills the song. Or any of the other lines mentioned in the thread.

That one is tough, but nothing about it grabs me. Super technical, but boring. I'm sure if you practiced is for a while, you could get though.

I like to play the bass in more traditional way, holding the bottom, grooving, adding melody, melodic/groovy soloing; but playing, worshipping, or sounding like Jaco doesn't interest me in the least.

From what I have heard (I own his self titled cd), he often forgets the groove in favor of flashy soloing and that is where I lose interest. I can see why some people might like his playing though, but I don't for the most part.

Heh, everyone will murder me for this but Feildy's line in the song off of Issue's...Um.. I think its called Lets Get This Party Started. All it is is an open B with alot of mutes but I cant picture that song without it.

Hmm... Everyone pretty much covered most of the bases actually.

Agreed, whoever posted the Rush comment was way off mark.

I view simple as something a bassist of a couple weeks could play easily.

Rush: odd time signatures, certain very difficult passages, etc. And try play them while imitating Geddy's singing voice and occasionally trigger pedal synths; that's certainly not simple to me, but I applaud you if you can do all that simply. :eyebrow:

I can't sing and play Rush well yet, but I couldn't even attempt some of the playing when I first started playing.

It don't get much simplier than that.

Actually, it may be a little too fast at parts for a beginner though. But you don't even need to move out position for most of the song -- that is unless you have a 5 string, then you don't need to move out of postion AT ALL! (The entire chorus can be played by transitioning between the 3rd fret of the E, B, and A... talk about easy... :smug: )
