Simple question

can ur cab handle 1500 watts continuous or at peak? because the difference between 1100 watts and and 1500 is not that much. also im pretty sure the svt6 pro has a preamp out. so i would just send the signal from the preamp to the power amp that you plan on buying.
if your looking for a power amp i suggest a QSC, i have a model 1400 and it still works perfect and its pretty old

The cabinet is a Basson 8x10. It RMS' at 2000w, and needs a minimum of 1500W NO MATTER WHAT. The guy's at Basson said even if it's 1400w, it will work okay for a bit, then it will basically kill the output transformer in the head (which it has blown our SVT2 and SVT6 already).
It would be okay to run the Preamp out on the amplifier into a power amp? are you positive?

It sounded iffy to me at first also, but now that we have ruined two amplifiers output transformers because they weren't 1500w, I believe it. The magnets in the Basson cabs are so huge, they are basically power hungry, and NEED that power.
Clipping the amp?
I just need to know if it's possible to use an external power amp for a regular old bass head through just 1 cab =[
yes you can yous a power amp, i believe the svt6 has a preamp out thing. just connect that to a channel on the power amp
I've never heard of a cab that needed a minimum amount of power.
What are you going to do...........run it at full volume all the time ?

Like I said, it all sounded like bogus to me too, and still doesn't make much sense, but anyone here who has Basson can back me up and confirm that this is true.
I'll say it again, we used an SVT2 with the cabinet. EVERYONE knows that SVT2's can power near anything, with more than enough headroom, but not Basson's. We had the amplifier checked by a certified ampeg tech before using it with the Basson, and there was nothing wrong with it. We ran the SVT2 through Ampeg 8x10, and sounded perfectly fine. We hooked it up through the Basson, and it sounded %90 quieter than with the Ampeg.
Then, we tried an SVT6 with it. Again, it's a 6 month old head, works perfectly fine with ANY other cabinet. It sounded much better than the SVT2 did for a couple days, then boom, it went down to being the exact same as the SVT2. Very quiet, peak going off, and just a underpowered and distorted sound.
I called Basson, and he said that no MATTER WHAT it needs to be 1500w. It will fry the output transformers in the head if it's NOT 1500w. Again, I have never heard of something going wrong with the head by it UNDERPOWERING a cabinet, but apparently it's possible.
If someone else can also confirm I can run a power amp through the preamp out in the back of my SVT6 it would mean a lot. Thanks.
according to the basson web site it does say it needs to have that much power, but i cant see why.
i believe you can under power a cab by pushing a head and it clipping but thats all i heard of. so if you are using your svt6 head right now and turn it to only 5 your saying it will destroy the svt6?
no need to confirm it, a preamp out is there to send your preamp signal an external poweramp. your manual should confirm this
The first day we used the SVT6, it sounded loud and good.
No peak going off, no clipping, nothing bad at all.
Second day, we turn it on, and it's just horrible. It's now doing the exact same thing as the SVT2 was doing. Ive been on the phone for about 2 hours today with Ampeg, Basson, and a local tech, it's getting ridiculous.
Now I have to pay $200+ to replace these transformers, and either get a new cab, or get a power amp to give it at least 1500w.
Why would anyone want a cabinet that eats amps for breakfast when there are so many other options that sound great.

We have an a deal with Basson, so basically obligated to stay with them. The cabinets sound great, and are exactly what we are looking for (when all this drama is delt with).Why would anyone want a cabinet that eats amps for breakfast when there are so many other options that sound great.

If we would have known we were going to have to deal with all this crap, we wouldn't have done it in the first place.
So, getting a power amp it is. Anyone suggest a decently priced, decent amp?
