Simple Recording App for iPhone or iPad?

Hey there, I'd like to know if such a thing exists: an application that lets you record stuff and do overdubs. Thats's all I need, no fancy effects or modeling. I just want to be able to record the sound coming out of an amp and then add other instruments and vocals.

I've used Garageband on computers and use Logic, but I hate hate hate the iOS-version. It is so idiotic simple that if you just want to do very simple things it gets really complicated.
Go for Auria (the cheapest version will do for you). You will not regret it. But it is iPad only!!!

GarageBand is only 6.99$?!

It is hard to beat Apple prices. Garageband on the pad is somewhat limiting, not like on a computer but it can be used. It's a good way to get started.

You still need a box to get your sounds into the ipad. You can use the ipad mic though.

If you just want to record ideas through the ipad mic, Apple offers an app called Music Memos. Free stuff is always good.

Yeah, basically it's just that, recording a bass riff and a drum machine, then overdub a guitar or piano line, vocals, nothing fancy.

And yes, I'll use the device's built-in mic.

You can't overdub with Music Memos. It really is just a scratch pad. Still worth trying.

I use Auria with the ipad's mic. I also import tracks to edit or play along with. Auria is quite expensive though but it's pretty impressive. Just checked, the LE version that was mentioned is still expensive at the Canadian Apple store, $29.

GarageBand should be free. It's included with all the latest iOS devices. How old is your iPad?

I don't know about anybody else, but I sure do. Everything from A on down just fades away.

Almost two years.

Yes. The built in mic is not what you'd call optimal for this type of work.

If you want good sound, you need a Focusrite or similar box that you can plug an instrument or mic into. Quality costs more to attain.
