Simple Sampler Modules?

I hope this is the appropriate forum for this...

What I want is a simple sampler that
1.) can be driven by MIDI for live performance
2.) interfaces easily with a PC for WAV transfers...USB or SD card

most samplers out there seem to be the full on sample/effects/sequence /production affairs, which is way more than I need and wish to pay for.

all I want is reliable playback via MIDI and ease of file transfer.

do these exist?

I recently picked up a Digitech JamMan to play samples onstage. It has 99 channels and you can save samples as single-play or loop. It also connects to a PC via USB as well as an mp3 player.

There's an optional footswitch that allows you to flip through channels hands-free.

$350 total. They're all over Ebay as well. Most music shops carry them so you can check one out.

Is the Jamman MIDI compatible?

I see nothing on the digitech site to indicate that it has a MIDI input.

What is it you want to do?
do you want to load a sample lib - say like a orchestra instruments and play them chromatically with polyphony from a keyboard controller?

Or do you want to load in sample clips (like sound effects) and hit a midi key to play them back?

An alternative you might want to look into is a computer surplus store, and buy a mini-sized PC with technology from a few years past, and load on one of the many samplers available with one of the light host programs. Most all SW samplers do disk streaming now and don't need that much power.

Here's what I want to do:

My band has some songs that could really use synth/keyboard sounds on them -but we have no room for adding a keyboardist.

I have a DrumKat DK-10 drum pad midi controller. (not the seprate trigger outs, but a single MIDI cable out)
I'd like to be able to [have our drummer] trigger samples - long melodic phrases as well as percussive transient FX- using this controller.

I used to have an ASR-X that would have worked well except for the fact that it used the dinosaur 2.5" disks so transferring files was impractical. I prefer to create/ edit the sounds to perfection on a PC and transfer it to a simple sampler.

So all I need is a sampler that lets me assign samples to MIDI notes / note ranges; and USB or SD card capacity. Not much else. A whole PC is a bit over kill I believe...and unreliable for gigging.

A Roland SP 303 looks close to what I want...but still has more features than I need...
