Single 10" Cabs for Recording

I really like the sound of a close-miked 10" speaker for modern/ pop rock bass tone. Has anyone experimented with like a single 10" non-ported cab? Who makes the best sounding ones?

I like this EA cx 110,bought it from a guy that blew
the original driver,i installed EM BP 102,haven't
recorded with it yet, use it as stage & drum
monitor behind my main cab allows my amp to run
at maximum output 4ohms..

Line6 make a studio110 which has all the requirements for recording. I use mine in lots of studios from the BBC to small commercial studios, to home recording with fantastic results. I have even gigged the combo live. For me it is a win win situation.

I plugged an Ibanez SR 505...

...at a music store a few years back and was bloooooooooown awaaaaaaaaay. (Obviously, right...I specifically remembered both culprits all these years later...lol) My buddy and I just looked at each other in sheer amazement. It sounded phenomenal. Really, really, really good. Mic it and you'd be good to go, man. Hell...I wouldn't mind playing out with the thing...just sit it on a stool with a mic in front of it.

Definitely worth checking out.

Tried the Line 6 Studio 110 out. Not what I'm looking for. If I could plug a preamp into it, I'd buy one tomorrow. I'm just not to excited about the presets. One of them was okay but the others weren't my cup of tea.

Overall it's kind of limiting...

I have a Walter Box (local company) custom 1x10 with an old speaker w/ alnico magnet and a current bass basket that works quite well for bass, piccolo bass and also guitar.
