Single Coil/Split Coil Comparison Please

I currently play a stock `50s Classic P-Bass. I'm planning on assembling a Tele/P-Bass hybrid very similar to Dan Howard's and would appreciate tonal comparisons of the single coil and split coil pickups. I used to own a `68 Telecaster Bass, but I can't remember the actual tonal characteristics of the pickup. I used flatwounds on that bass and almost always rolled off most treble; I like a "thumpy" tone. I'm having no real luck with youtube searching single coil bass pickups or any variant of `52 P-Bass,etc. Seymour Duncan's site offers no sound clips as far as I can tell. This build would be so much easier as a SCPB, but the idea of having both types of P pickups in a single instrument and being able to use them independently is really interesting to me. Thanks for any help or advice.
