Yeah. Thanks a lot guys. It's awesome here. I'm very very grateful. (I fell asleep on the page last night☺). Basically have to do all the wiring properly again and learn more about shielding finally. I'll definitely find some time to get to it.

Lots of good info so far. In my experience wiring in series will also cause one of the pickups to make some noise when you touch the pole pieces. If you have a kind of pickup where the pole pieces are exposed on the bottom side (usually alnico pole pieces) you can stick a piece of copper tape over them and connect that to ground.

If there is any internal shielding on the pickups that isn’t separately grounded (including any sort of ground plate or foil on the bottom), then putting them in series will put the shielding of one of the pickups into the signal path rather than direct to ground. This will make that shielding a noise conductor rather than noise reducer!
