Single humbucker basses

I'm looking for a single MM style bass. I've played 'Rays and Sterlings and I like them, as well as some MM/J style basses and other humbucker basses with the pup in the MM spot.

I really like the tone and punch of the style.

However I don't want an EBMM anything. I like the ESP B-1, but they're hard to come by. I want something decent, with the potential to upgrade to better, with a used price of $300-400.

Thoughts on what would be good to give a test run?

If you can spend a little more, a used G&L Climax or L-1500 would be perfect. Very aggressive. Or there's the relatively new Fender Big Block Precision. I haven't played one, and have no idea how well they do the StingRay/L-1500 thing.

a very,not to say very very nice bass is the xover by humanbase.
It is a bolt on mm stylep/u equipped instrument available as 4 or 5 string( maybe one could gat a six as well.
the fourstring with frets is 1380 euros.:hyper:

Check my siggie... A little more than your stated price but it's a damn good bass!!

Why is it that you don't want anything EBMM, even though you like the basses? Price? What about the Sub?

A few reasons, price is sort of one, if I want something from EBMM I want the real deal Ray or Sterling, not one of the other models, and that's not going to happen right now. Plus, I just want something different that delivers the same sound, doesn't need to be the SAME sound, just that general punchy tone that one expects from a MM pup.

I was thinking of building a jazz bass with a MM pickup in it, but I'm not sure if I want to get that in depth right now. I can paint real well and don't have a problem with routing and such, however I'd like to find something with more resale value to it.

I also don't want something like an OLP that's going to need a bridge, pickup, etc upgrade.

Oh I looked at them, the Artist series, and whatever the next series up from that looked nice, I like them and I'm going to try to play one, the TBC bass looks interesting too, but I probably won't be able to play one of those, plus I can't find any solid pricing.
