There have been a lot of questions and discussions about a single set-up for playing db and bg. I thought I would share my recent experience.
I switch several times a set between bg and db. I have been pretty happy with my rig - G-K Backline 600 into two Yourville 210 cabs. Realist into Fishman Pro Plat which goes into an A/B switch box to change instruments.
My Backline is waiting on components from the factory. Kudos, by the way, to Gallien Krueger. I expected to be told to contact a certified service center when I called but they not only sold me the parts but had me talk to their technician to verify my diagnosis. A+ for customer service at G-K.
I had to drag my old SVT 400T out last weekend. It sounded far more natural and even on the db than the G-K. In spite of the 800 lbs +/-
that the Ampeg weighs, it seems to be a very good choice for both bg and db. Much easier to dial in than the G-K which has always served me well. Last weekend was as close to the sound of the actual instrument (only louder) as I've been able to get.
Hope somebody finds my experience helpful in their search for an affordable rig for both bg and db. Given the weight of the ampeg, I will only be using if for db gigs, for the bg only jobs the G-K wins out for portability.
