Singlecut help needed!

Brubakers are neither neck through nor set neck. They utilize a unique neck joint, the neck tab goes into a 4 sided pocket about 8" deep into the body and bolts on. Kevin Brubaker calls it a "bolt-thru" neck. He's been building this way for around twenty years. You can see from this pic that upper fret access is uninhibited.

When you're going the custom route, regardless of who you go with, it'll help if you can articulate what it is you're after... tonality, playability and looks are all choices on which you'll provide input.

What I don't get is that you like some makers, but don't like others designs that have similar designs to those designs you like! lol

I'll caution you to dave pushic, do a search. People (including him) say his work is waaaay better now, but I've seen a bass on youtube he's made recently that seems to say the opposite...

You could try to reach out to a small builder in MD, FBB Custom Bass .... most of his single cut commissions have been extended range basses (6+ strings). FBB is very selective about what can be custom ordered as well as what custom orders he's willing to take on, so there is no guarantee that he'll take the job.

FBB luthier Matt Schmill is a literal one-man shop with sort-of funky, earthy type basses. They are painstakingly built, the highest quality, and play like a dream. Matt himself is one of the nicest people I've ever met and I couldn't have had a better luthier/customer relationship than my orders with him.

You can give him a shot if you like the style of his work

I'm pretty picky with SC designs, but ones that I like are Elrick, Redeemer, and yes even the Pushic. They're slightly different but all have "it" for me. Of course they may not for you, that's cool. I do notice that the shapes Scotty of Redeemer is making are a ittle different from the rendering on his site, for the better IMO.

BTW, if you've got a second check out my build thread. I didn't do it intentionally, but the shape is like a love child of a fodera and benavente, I'd think you would like it.

You're not doing a thorough enough search He's been mentioned more on TB than anywhere else on the internet. He had some MAJOR quality control issues for the first few years he was building and selling to TBers. It seems these issues have mostly been dealt with according to TBers who have purchased his instrument in the most recent couple of years.

With you having a CB already on order, I have a feeling you would be impressed enough to order another, as most have. Between Cliff Bordwell, Chris Stambaugh, and Mr. Elrick, there's a lot of talent for a pretty reasonable price. These guys might not be the most expensive guys on the block, but I wouldn't let that fool ya. No offense to the big names, but I'll take the same quality for 1/2 the price, please.

I guess you could also look at Epi's they make a LP bass.
While not anything custom made I feel it may be a real cool and cheap way to do the singlecut style on a short budget.

I agree with you Spade2you that if i could get the same quality for half the price why going with the more expensive brands?

I still haven't received my CB and i won't receive it until july. I can't comment on the build quality.

I sold 3 basses so instead of sending the money to the bank, i wanna buy a fodera!!!

I told myself with a 18 month waiting time, if i want a fodera i should already take a look at them...

Patience is the key work in this case, just make sure i won't buy the first deal to come.

One of the prettiest basses on TalkBass IMO. Needs an inlay at the 24th fret though!

One benefit of getting an Elrick singlecut is that it's a short wait time- 4-6 months. My last one actually only took 3 months even, but I wouldn't expect that normally. I wouldn't put them in the same "super great price" range that spade mentioned though- while Elrick bolt-ons are a steal even when new, the singlecuts are fairly pricey. Not Fodera pricey, and definitely worth every penny, but they're not in the "I can't believe it was this cheap!" range.

Not that I'd urge you to wait or anything, but I think you might be pleasantly surprised and could fine tune/tweak things to get Cliff's basses to work even better for you. If you look at a lot of his builds lately, a lot are for repeat customers. I'm in the next next batch with a Nordstrand dual coil equipped Rami 6er. Even though the Rami isn't built, I'm still considering some sort of fanned 6 or 7.

Just curious... what is your type of elecronics? Kevin has built with Bartolini, Aguilar, Demeter, Glockenklang, Nordstrand, Sadowsky, Pope, Duncan, Aero, Lane Poor, Barden, Fralin, EMG electronics and more.

He's a custom builder. I'm not saying you're wrong, just curious as to what your type is?
