I just saw on Sire's Facebook page that they are indeed coming out with a true P bass. It's still in prototype stages...but that's very encouraging for you traditional guys.

"Hey Sire Fans!

The photos of the P7 (Precision Sire model) is still under the prototype status so these are not final yet. We just wanted to let our fans know what we have been working on as a surprise this 2017. Our heartfelt thanks to all the suggestions we got too so don't worry as Sire will update you again soon for this. As always, we will stand in giving back more for all our players.

The Sire Revolution continues!

For you guys who own both the V7 vintage and the original V7, how would you compare the 2 tonally? My main gigging bass for years was my '72 Fender Jazz with maple neck/black block inlays, and there are times I wish my V7 rosewood could get in the ballpark of the punchy, more aggressive tone I get out of that bass. I know the bridge PUP's in the 70's position and the neck's maple, but is there a noticeable tonal difference on these basses or is it more aesthetics?

The Sire PJ. Shamelessly stolen from Facebook.

Very cool looking bass. I personally wish the P PUP were reversed, however, as I'm generally not a fan of PJ setups unless the P is reversed. It just seems to work better when the PUPs are blended and offers more of an even tonal balance across the strings on the P PUP, IMO. My old Guild Pilot bass and Spector Euro have this setup, and I prefer it.

Im New to the Club. This is my ash V7 and it weighs around 11lbs. It plays great. I have read in a german review that the string through body is disfunctional on the 4 string basses. Is this true? Does anyone strings through the body?

My 4 string was the exact opposite. It was factory set up as top load and didn't quite sound right to me but once I changed strings and ran them through body the difference was night and day. Mine sounds amazing now.

I think some of the earlier models had issues going string through body due to the bridge saddles actually covering the holes. I think they corrected that issue on later batches. ( I think that might be what you're asking about??)

I'm interested in know the tone difference also between the vintage and V7. Hopefully, everyone says they sound the same so I don't have to gas for another bass lol

I have an Alder/Rosewood V7 5 string and a 78' Fender Jazz bass Ash/Rosewood board. Both weigh about 10.4 lbs. The V7 sounds great! The 78' Jazz sounds punchier and more aggressive, the V7 is darker sounding and subdued. I'm pretty sure the Sire vintage would get closer to the 78' Fender Jazz. I think both sound great, but myself and others prefer the 78' Fender Jazz.

I own a V7 Alder 5 and a VV7 Alder 5 and I prefer the more focused tone of the VV7. I'm actually thinking of selling my V7. I see that you're alos in NJ @pjmuck if you want to stop over to try both of them.

Anyone have suggestions for good cases for the Sire V7? Looking for hard cases in particular. A lot of cases I've seen just don't fit it.
I don't know where you could find one, but the hardshell case my 12 stringer came in is long enough and then some (towel for extra padding).

I have a gator case that holds my v7 nicely. Body is snug (and that's with the strap routed around the perimeter of the body) and lengthwise it works.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread. I have an older SKB fitted j-bass case that fits the Sire like a glove (fits a Sire better than a Fender!). I can't seem to find the thing online anywhere though.
