Yup. I do my own setups and it took me 4 solid days to get my VV7 Alder/Maple 5 setup perfectly. The neck was totally flat and needed substantial truss rod adjustments. Because of this, it needed a complete setup as everything was off (string height, radius and intonation). The fret work was perfect, however, not a single issue there.

Now that my VV7 5 is setup and I've been playing it a few weeks, I can honestly say that I'm still totally blown away. This is the best Jazz bass I've ever played in both playability and especially tone. That says a lot.

Like I stated in an earlier post, this Sire has me rethinking a few things.

It's quite worth noting that "too flat" is rather an exception from the norm to begin with. But always great to hear feedback from newer Sire owners. Gotta love those "is it just hype?" type threads.

I don't think people realize just how good these Sire basses really are. To the ones that don't know any better, all they're seeing is "hype" and I guess it's just too hard to believe. However, I'm certainly a believer now.

Is it just me or am I seeing lower and lower estimated shipping dates from purchase time recently? I haven't bought any myself but it seems people are getting their basses faster.

My GAS has won out and I was going to go for an ASH V7-5S available on the 30th, but I'll be out of commision from the 30th for a couple weeks and wouldn't be able to enjoy it from a physical capability standpoint. So then my GAS manbrain kicks in and sez, the V9 comes out on the 15th... So I'm thinking this is the place to ask ebony vs maple fretboard. I would love some informed or not so informed speculation on possible tone variations re: the V7-5S.
I have maple & rosewood and in general prefer the snap of maple but have only played ebony on a guitar. Loved it. My upright has ebony but apples & oranges. Love to hear from the community on this. Thanks.

I've only ever had one bass with ebony, so couldnt compare it well, but my understanding is that it is brighter than maple. Basically, like maple+

I'm GASSing for the V9 5S... maybe. Shot in the dark at present. If ebony leans toward that bright mapleish thing, I like. Thanks for your thoughts!

V7 cheapest non B-stock options on Thomann are £383, cheapest P7 I saw was about £436. Sadly £436 is about $560. V9s are running £564 to £652 for four strings. I should have got a V7 before the Brexit vote. Luthier attention on existing instruments and new pickups, etc. might now be cheaper!

They do seem to be meeting or beating expected shipping dates quite a lot lately, a very good sign, I hope they can keep it up long term.

I like this trend too, however I will be away on vacation from 7-1 thru 7-10...so I'm kinda hoping that they are pretty close to the 7-15 ETA. Just sayin'. I actually emailed Mickey to ask how the production was going and if they were going to meet the ETA.

This is what I was told:

The estimated ship date for your bass is July 15th, 2017 as stated on your order confirmation. Please be advised that this is the estimated first ship date for that batch of orders and the actual ship date is later due to the fact that we have to ship in the order received and also due to the growing demand and orders for the the SIRE basses.

Please be advised that because we are working with future orders, we can only give you our best estimate at the time of ordering. There is possibility of bass being shipped earlier as well as possibility of a little delay depending on the production situation. We will do our best to ship the bass around the proposed ship date however we ask for your understanding in case we run into some delay. We thank you in advance for your patience. If you do not receive UPS ship notice by the anticipated ship date on 7/15 please contact us again and we can better update you with the status.

Once the bass arrives and ready to be shipped to you, you will get an email with UPS tracking number for you to follow the shipment.

Mickey always seems to respond to me within 24 hours. Maybe the fact that I have purchased 4 Sires so far doesn't hurt, and that I constantly tell people how great these basses are.

So including my V7, I think between all the bass players at my church (and a couple of guitar players too) there are now about 8 Sires between us. Maybe I should go work as a sales rep for Sire...
