Sire M5 Review

I'm trying to get that chunky MM sound... Experimenting... Don't think I've found it yet... Doesn't mean its not there, I just haven't found it yet...
You can ask the LowEndLobster, I think he has a Km on the wall behind him, and can do a side by side comparison...
Or check out his u tube channel, he may already have done that!
I thought I read somewhere that soloing the bridge in series mode got a kind of MM sound… is that not true at all?
I was curious about the Bartolini Quad coil PU… I’d like to see a four coil PU wired for P, reverse P, outer coil, inner coil, Parallel, and Series… with a six position selector switch (knob?). That is my dream config.
I've been reading reviews about the M5, but I have not see anyone comment on the action of the neck. Can you get a good low string height without to much noise?
The action on mine was great, no string noise issues. And yes I like low action.
I get this, I actually prefer the humbucker sound of the big magnet, MusicMan style pickups in the M2 models over the dual j pickup design.

I'm really interested by the M2 and the M5
I'm in love with their blue colors.
I don't care about wood of body etc etc
I've watched the videos on lobster channel ( great job). So the difference between M2 /M5 is different pickups and a preamp with more option for M5.
1 - I love the tone of both
2 - in band situation a play often rock , metal, funk
3 - I use often driver
I understand the interest of the M5 for all the possibilities.
I'm really interested by the jazz configuration.
I don't have jb in my arsenal.
Mostly in group I play bass with mm configuration to cut through the mix.
So I'm not sure to have the need of all the possibilities of the M5. Only maybe the JB configuration which is great too to cut through the mix, and for a lot of songs.
Almost 300 € difference between both models....
What it's your opinion ?
1- life is too short take the M5
2 - JB is for pussy take a PB
3 - take the M2 and a V3 JB configuration
4 - take none of them
5 - stop watching videos and gear stuff, play your actual gear
6 - other suggestions maybe ?? MM + J

My vote is definitely for opinion #1. Expand your horizons, diversity is a wonderful thing!
M5 owner... So, get one and play the crap out of it, enjoy all the sound options available...

Thanks for the excellent review and responses. I’ve been thinking about one that’s come up on reverb and is within a two hour drive. I hope to pick it up this weekend.
Curious about the people trying to Squeeze MM tones out of these. A humbucker in parallel near the bridge will get some of the way there, but it needs to be a little further forward(tiny bit of neck blend might help?), series could work too to make it sound rounder and "neckier".

Granted I just got it, but I haven't been able to quite get the thickness of the MM bridge pick with this, but you can get a close approximation. The preamp is a completely different beast from the Stingray 3-band, and I think that might be the biggest factor. That said, it took me about 10 minutes to dial in a tone that I felt sat really nicely in the mix, and with a lot more flexibility than my StingRay (which is still my #1). I am running both pickups in series, and that definitely gets it closer.
I'm with you on the look of the M2 vs M5. I went in looking to get the M2, but the finish of the M5 was worth the extra cash. Especially when you're talking about it still being less than 1/3 of a new StingRay5.
