As I said last Friday I put fender strings on the M7.
But now that they've tamed, I'm not so satified with them.
I'd like to keep some of the medium brightness, and versatility of the M7 sound but without the high hiss.
Which strings would you advice for this ?

Thanks for the strings advice. The only time I've tried GHS I found the round wound to harsh. I think they were GHS Boomers. Are the strings you mention softer?I didn't like the treble sound on my Ibanez BTB, especially on g-string when I got some basic roundwound strings.
Now I'm playing with GHS PressureWounds which feels much more balanced.
I'm about changing from BTB to M7 because
35"->34" scale
EQ bypass
Pickup versatility (single/parallel/series)
How does the passive side work? Is it easier to get more vintage vibe? (Flatwounds, p-bass, I know but is something organic possible to get with M7)

Yes I'm able to get close to Jaco's sound with the M7, but I worked my right hand technique to dig enough and I use a Zoom B3n so I can't tell if you can get it with the bass alone.How jazz can you get the m7?
Do you get jaco feeling with singlecoil bridge pickup setting?
Also do you all hear the buzz when you balance to one of the pickups in singe coil mode?

Ids it really though? My memory can be faulty, but my recollection is that, while there were things out there to suggest that they were adjustable, Mickey said that, in fact, they were not.
Yeah, Mickey said they weren't, but once I found the right hex wrench for the grub screw, turns out, mine is, at least. I didn't mess with it much, just jiggled it enough to verify I could move it if I wanted to. No idea what the travel is, can't be a whole lot, but it would only need .2mm per to go from 18mm to 19mm spacing. I'll have to get it out again and get some close-up pics.Ids it really though? I should say that your calculation is not quire correct. Look at it this way: On an N-string bass, to achieve a change in spacing (assuming the spacings are all equal) of Delta, you need to move the outermost strings Delta*(N-1)/2.
So, on a 5-string bass, to achieve a 1-mm change in spacing you need a 2-mm change in position of each of the outermost strings (B and G in standard tuning). (You also need a 1-mm change in position of the next two [E and D] and a 0-mm change in the position of the center string [A], but those are not the limiting strings.)
If you start with the strings in the center of their range, you only have half the range of adjustment in each direction, so the range you would need is Delta*(N-1).
For our example of a 5-string bass and a 1-mm change, if you start in the middle of the range, that means you need a range of adjustment of 4 mm.
Everything gets a bit easier for a 4-string bass, of course.
