Sire V7 5 string v2 with EMG J5 replacement

Hello,

did anybody tried to replace the original pickups with active EMG J5 while keeping the original preamp?
I am not really an expert on bass electronics, so i'm not really sure if it can be done.

Thanks in advance for answers!
Cheers.

certainly can be done, the biggest question isn't electronics, it's whether the new pickups fit the existing routes.

I was wondering if the active EMGs might require different pot values than the passive Sire pickups. I guess it will depend upon whether the pickups are wired directly to the preamp, or directly to the pickup balance pot.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's the latter, which might require a stacked balance pot of a different value for the active EMGs.
Routes can be opened up a little more easily enough.
I've seen people load the J-System into their V-5s.
