Slap Bass

I was just wondering what you guys conider to be the best bass for slapping. Keep in mind i dont want to spend too much money.

sure, get a mim fender jazz.

other options i would recomend:

used lakland 44-01
used fender geddy lee
used ksd proto j-70's version
any other ash bodied, maple board jazzish bass
a used music man sub
any peavy bass at the 500 dollar mark

I would recommend a G&L Tribute L2000. I have the MIA G&L and I gotta say, the Tributes aren't far behind. Plus, they're good for a pretty much everything else.

A Fender Jazz, MIM. Great slap tone, I think. Plus, the quality of Fender's Mexican-made stuff has been improving significantly. I'd say there are far fewer lemons to be found now than even a couple years back.

yeah if you say up $800 you can get a used music man. Itd be worth it. But if you dont want to buy used, an mtd kingston can hold you over. They are the best basses in the price range, IMO. Easily upgraded too.

yeah a Jazz bass isn't a bad idea. For one its a solid all around bass. I imagine you won't be doing strickly slap style playing, so having a real work horse bass would be a good idea.

Hey there. I checked out your profile but didn't see what kind of bass(es) you already had but if you are just starting out and you wanted to try your hand at a couple of different basses, say fretless, or a 5 stringer, or you just wanted a good 4 banger, you should check out the SX basses.

Do a search here on talkbass to get some reviews on these things. I just got one and I have been really impressed with it. Solid neck, good bridge, action is good, the frets are nice. The only thing that I don't like and that bugs me is the pickup and the jack. Both are cheap. These are still great sounding basses though. A BIG bang for the buck.

Depends on the slap tone you like. Personally, I even like the slap tone of my hollowbody bass heheh.
