slapable half rounds?

Can anyone recomended a set of halfs that can be comfortably slapped? Wether they are compression wound or ground wound doesnt matter, just need some with medium/low tension. I have tried GHS brite flats and i really didnt like them so they are out of the question. thank you

I dunno. I was going to suggest GHS Brite-Flats because that's what Abe Laboriel used on his (pre-EB) Music Man Sabre to record a good deal of his classic work including movies and all the the chase scenes in "C.H.I.P.S".

Nor am I clear on what you mean by "comfortably slapped". For me, slapping has worked well with just about any strings as long as they're not to heavy.

Ken Smith Slickrounds or Compressors.

I've used them both, the Slicks are a little more on the flat side, and the Compressors on the round side (both types in feel and tone). They both slap well too. The Slicks have their own flavor when slapped, which is good, but the Compressors sound just like a round when slapped IMO, but still give you an ultra-fat fingerstyle sound.

I have the Compressors on my P5 right now (.40; .58; .80; .102; .125TW) and they're pretty freakin' slinky. Not DR or TI slinky (thank goodness), but they're loose.



EDIT: If you didn't like Pressurewounds, you probably won't like any groundwound, Slickrounds included.

Thank you. When I tried the Brite Flats the tension felt pretty high but I really liked the tone. When I tried slapping them a little bit it was very uncomfortable. In order to even get the note out i had to pluck hard and when I did I just got a nasty clunk sound. I never had that experience when slapping flats before, I typically like the tone I get from slapping chromes or ghs flats. These strings just felt wierd for some reason. Do all grounds/compression wounds share this same feel?

Compression wounds have ridges like a roundwound, but they are a lot smoother to the touch, and have a really slick feel. They are probably the easiest strings on my fingers, next to Elixirs.

Ground wounds are probably the roughest strings around for the first month of their life. They feel like a cat's tongue until they are played for a while. The Smith Slickrounds are plenty slinky in the lightest gauge. You shouldn't have any tension problems there.
