slaping a jaguar

hey does any one else notice their hand hitting the volume knob when they slap, if so any suggestions as to what to do, or is it just a matter of moving a bit up.

second thought, any suggestions as to effect setting combinations i should try

every time you bash the switch it reminds you to be a little more "economical" with your slap style.

moving you hand sounds easy enough, but you get a different sound and i dont like it aas much for certain songs

Where's your hand placement? Depending on where you place your hand it will obviously impact the tone. On my basses, i tend to slap near/on the base of the neck. You can hear some of the over tones when you slap on the actual neck but if ya slap too far down you're gonna be hitting the knobs.. you should try and move up your hand..

reallly depends on RHCP i put my hand between the neck pick up and the neck, but the others, like marcus miller and casino lights, its on the tail pickup

I tend to slap my jag closer to the neck so I really don't have that problem, but I play with a pick mostly down near the bridge and was constantly turning my volume down. I fixed the prob by replacing the knobs with P-Bass style knobs. The weight of them really helps keep them from turning.

I don't own a Fender Jag, but I do slap. Try slapping where your thumb hits the area of the last fret and where the neck joins the body, that should help.

My jag is very easily slapped. I tend to slap between the end of the neck and the neck pickup.I don't have a problem hitting the volume knob, but sometimes I will hit my pickup switches though. I'm not the most precise slapper either, so its hard to control. Whats really annoying is that my knuckles hit the pickguard whenever I pop, so I get the string noise and my knuckle noise.

I really should refine my technique.

Dude. I've never heard of of anybody slapping that far back towards the bridge. Do you have trouble with the string hitting the pickup poles? I always slap at the end of the fingerboard and use the pickups/active eq to affect the slap tone.

What you're doing may be unusual by my standards, but I can definitely see where the jaguar volume knob would be an issue in your case.

I've never opened my jag up, but if its a standard 250K pot, you could replace it with one that doesn't turn quite as easily. The volume on my jag spins pretty freely, so it will move if it gets bumped. Different knobs, or no knob, might help too.
