Slapping bad for fretless

I play with DR Sunbeams nickle rounds or Black Beauties. Easier on the fretboard than steel but still plenty of punch for slapping on fretless. My fretless Warwick Streamer Stage II takes well to slapping. The ebony finger boards is so alive and articulate.

The only things that I can find bad in slapping on a fretless is that you can make the wear proccess abit faster(unless you got epoxy, then who cares?!),or it can just sound bad.

IMO,slapping should be on a fretted bass..
It just sounds better.

Though Les Claypool is slapping the **** out of his fretless and he sounds awesome.

Unfortuneately not i was thinking about ordering from warmoth and just putting the neck to the body but then i remembered i had to buy the hardware seperate which would put me at close to 1600 for everything. If anyone finds a 6 string fretless for 1,200USD and under let me know.

You can get a shiny new MTD Kingston Z6 fretless for closer to $1200 than $1600, and maybe less if you catch the right sale. You can pick one up used for well under $1200 if you're patient. I just got one which went through some abuse and needs a little TLC but is a blast to play even in it's current "rough" state. And Mr Tobias himself has answered my questions on the best way to get it back in shape. If I were looking for a new six string fretless in the $1400-ish range, I'd definitely be thinking about a Z6.

Most music stores got to only have one or 2 fretless basses period. Also only once have I gone out to the local bars and seen a guy playing a fretless. :scowl:

Really?

I just saw a guy playing a fretless, um I think it was maybe a Clement or something like that at a brewery gig in Seattle.

Oh wait.

That was me!

No slapping, but I got heaps of compliments on the both the sound and appearance of the bass.:D Thanks Tom!

I slap a lot on my 6 String Fretless Smith with Rounds... no problems...

I have had my fretless 6 since 97.

6 strings are considered a specialty instrument to many stores, a 6 string fretless... if they cant move it in less than a month they probably don't want it taking up their inventory... plus, most buyers of an instrument like that are going to want something very specific, not an off the shelf deal.

I slap my 6 string Fretless a little bit in this vid:

I know this is a tad off subject, but as far as roundwounds damaging a fretless putting grooves in the fretboard, I've had the same happen to my fretted bass, is there a way to prevent or help this, or is it nothing to worry about?
