Slightly Different Volume Control

After looking at the preamp in my Yamaha, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with putting the volume control after the preamp (such as an OBP-1/3).

The Yamaha has a normal 500k/500k blend control up front, with a 25k volume after the preamp. I've been thinking its a pretty good idea because you get the blend control but it should only present a single pot per pickup before buffering at the preamp (a continuation of the whole Vol/Vol vs Vol/Bal issue).

That's exactly the way I made volume control for my DIY active electronics. I have pre-buffered blend, though...
