Slow Hand

A close friend and I got into a discussion about the coolest nicknames for musicians. I brought up Slow Hand for Clapton, and he disagreed. He doesn't play any instruments, but listens to a lot of music and I respect his opinions. I had a hard time putting into words why Slow Hand is such a cool name.

So, do you think it's a good nickname or a bad one? Without giving away what I said, I would like to hear how you would describe it to a non-musician.

And just for poops and grins, what other cool nicknames can you think of? :D

Slowhand -'cos he kept breaking strings and the audience would give him the " slow hand clap" - British insult - while he restrung and tuned up!!.

Sting - used to wear a sweatshirt/pullover with alternating black and yellow horizontal stripes...

Jeff "Skunk" Baxter - he called on a friend and as he was taking a while to answer the door Baxter urinated in the flower bed ....

Chaka Khan is her "real" name - Chaka is her Yoruba name and she married Hassan Khan(who's a Bass Player).

I had no idea, I guess my friend was right. I though it had something to do with playing behind the beat, or playing really melodic stuff instead of just chops.

I always thought "Flea" was a good nickname for someone who jumps around so much.

always thought Flea, Prince and Slash were cool... but it was them along w/ the name that made it work. If you called me Prince it'd be a disaster . . . :rollno:

some people just have cool names too. I always hated my name growing up because it was long and no one could spell or pronounce it, but I really dig it now - it's Buonanotte (or Goodnight in English) like a built-in nickname :D now I get introduced at gigs as Mr Goodnight
