SM58A - Replace or Bin?

I have a half dozen SM58A mics that I owned for the better part of 20 years. They have been pretty much all over US, Canada, and Europe. Recently, half of them stopped working for no apparent reason, and the foam on the capsule and inside the grill is deteriorating on all of them.

Surprised they only had a 2 year warranty, but I was not expecting much on 20 years... Anyway, Shure want's $80 to replace them; not bad considering the price of new ones.

But I have been hearing a lot about the Sennheiser s835 and wondering if I should just put the money towards them since they are around $100.

A variety of mics might be better than multiples of the same.

I bet that with newer materials, the foam in the new ones will last even longer.

No, these are for stage. I used to mind the band's PS, but I only need one for myself now. Maybe a second for a backup.

for a host of reasons (some not related to the mics themselves) this has been, still is, and will likely remain --- true.

You have three working SM58s. Why not try something different?
