I am in need of a small amp mostly for practice round the house and maybe jammin with some buds...

I am deciding between these...

Fender Rumble 60 (60 w)
Ampeg BA 112 (50 w)
Crate BT 50 (50 w)

Fender Rumble 100 (100 w)
Ampeg BA 115 (100 w)
Crate BT 1000 (100 w)/(The BT 100 is also 100 w)

And I have not really counted out Peavey in similar wattages....

Right now, the crates seem to be calling my name, mostly because there seems to be a lot more power available for the same money as a much smaller Fender etc... I can get a BT 220 for 70 dollars more than a Fender Rumble 100!

Opinions?

Have you considered some of the Ashdown combos that are avaialable?

I picked up one of the B-Stock Mag 210T for $349 recently and couldn't be happier. I use it mainly for practice only, I usually go direct at the gigs.

IMHO get as much amp (wattage) as you can within your budget. If you plan on jamming with friends and one of your friends is a drummer the 50/60 watt amps are worthless and the 100 watt amp is probably going to struggle. The 220 watt Crate would be the best bet.

IMO the Ampeg BA112 will sound the best of the amps you listed.

If you are considering a Peavey amp the TKO's and TNT's are good choices. They are big, heavy and built like tanks. They are aslo quite a bargin if you buy them used. I would stay away from the Max series since they only offer you up to 50 watts of power.

One of the best little gig/practice amps I've had was an SWR WM10. I also like my current little combo - Roland Cube 100.

I have a WM10 and picked up a Deltalite on the bay for $50. What a difference this made in the sound!! I use it for small gigs, acoustic jams and practice. This has a great sound when coupled with my Sansamp BDDI. And the weight dropped to 26 lbs with the speaker change.

I'm really digging my Crate BT 1000. I think it's a perfect practice amp with a 12in for my 5 string. For added boom I use it with a 15 inch 4ohm cab and I can make myself heard against a drummer. For live events, the XLR jack is cool for using it as a stage monitor (haven't done that yet, though). I love the tilt back design and the built in tuner.

You can't use it alone on live shows, but for practices with mates or by yourself, the Crate has the sound, specs and price I like (plus it's pretty light).

That BT-220 Rocks!!!!!
I voted Crate - if you can get one at GC's clearance price, it would be an unbelievable deal. I owned a BT-220 and could not have been happier.

Hartke Kickback 12.
Stop giggling.
You will be amazed how well they sound and how loud they go.
The trick is, don't kick it back.
And it handles a low B with really not much issue at all.

For $429.00 you could get the Bassman 150. It's 150 watts, 1x12 combo, tilt cab, 40lbs, lots of pro features and lots of tone and sound variation. I have one and I like it better than my workingmans 15. It even handles the low B on a Five string better than the Workingmans 15. In my opinion it's the best 1x12 combo I ever owned. :bassist:
