Small form factor power amps

Any idea where to get a hold of the modules? Or is that what you did?

I believe the ICEPower modules are only available to OEMs, and cannot be obtained by a private individual. I did see one on ebay once...but it was almost as expensive as buying a used GK MB2-500 (which go for under $400 these days) and ripping one out of there.

I asked one of the makers of micro heads if he would consider offering a power amp only version. He said that the sales volume would be so low that he would have to sell it for more than the head.

There is a company called powersoft, you can find them sold on Invalid Link Removed they sell high powered, light weight, single space power amps....

Acoustic Image used to make a the Focus SA which was the power amp section of what is now the clarus + (1000w @2 ohms, 800w @4 ohms, 500w @8 ohms) It didn't seem to sell all that well.

For bass players who use a seperate pre/power section I don't know that there is a big market for micros, by their nature they seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum.

No reason you can't buy a micro head and bypass the preamp section by utilizing the return/power amp in on the effects loop.

Yup!! This is about the best out there IMHO!

I didn't know it was PowerSoft DigiMod
I heard a DJ use one and it sounded great and loud.

Call them today and use the coupon OCT20% and get another $40 off

True, but here's why I think it would be cool: I run a TA501, that runs best (IME) at 4ohms. I have a 4ohm Golight 4x10, and a 5.3ohm UL310. I cannot add another one of either without a seperate pwr amp. So a 500 watt pwr amp in a box roughly the size and weight of a LMII would be neato, I think.

Ok, so I just ordered a Vestax VDA-1000. I'll report back when I get a chance to play with it.

I broke down and ordered one too
$160 today with the call in OCT20% coupon. Still 45days to try and see if it's any good.

If it is a powersoft, it will great.
At worst, I been carrying a crate power block for a backup amp (although I've never had to use it). This would be just a more powerful backup amp.

It does have a fan. On the side they don't show you there are vent holes. It is not meant to be rack mounted, but I imagine if you provided ventilation it could be. Or maybe it could be stuck on a vertical slot mount on the back of a cab since the powersofts digimods are often built into powered cabinets.
It's rated in EIAJ rated watts which could be argued is slightly less than EIA ratings, but still it's an industry standard rating.

I'm also curious on the latency of the USB interface.

So UPS says that my new Vestax VDA-1000 has been delivered. Now I just have to make it through the rest of the day at work before I can check it out! I'll try to post some impressions by tomorrow.

I keep forgetting to mention... if it is the DigiMod, the 1000NPS unit which I think this is based on does not like to be bridged into 4 ohms so keep that in mind. Still waiting on the UPS truck... The 1000NPS has a thermal driven fan output, but no native/on-board fan. It's left up to the packaging to add fans or not.

Don't forget to mention that these modules were also designed to slot right in to the back of a cabinet, thus making the cabinet an 'active' one. Being so small, they probably wouldnt upset the TS specs of the cab either. The casing is a heatsink and thus, needs no fan.

A great module and sadly, BK no longer make them. However - I have reason to believe that Magnatec, a UK company who manufacture mosfets etc at least *did* still make a panel version of this very same amplifier. I would go as far as to say that Magnatec and BK are somehow related, be it through an OEM stream, I have no idea!

Anyway - great module - and I still kick myself for selling it - though I'm chuffed to bits to still see it rockin for ya mate!
