Small loud cab for my Demeter VTBP 800D

I have too many cabs, including another Aguilar 210. Transport up and down 2 flights of stairs wants me to find a single cab solution. Especially when the average weight for my cabinets it’s 60lbs+

Typically when I gig a single 210 it’s an Aguilar DB210 and not this S210. I wonder if it has lower sensitivity compared to the much newer DB series. Can’t really find many specs on the older Aguilar since it’s been discontinued for 10-15 years at this point.

Understood. My Eden cabs are about 10lbs less each. But as a guy hitting 70 this year, I don’t know how long that is going to happen.

Hi all,

For many years I’ve been gigging and digging Aguilar and Ampeg amps and cabs. Recently got a Demeter VTBP M 800D in trade for my SVT-CL. It sounds great at rehearsal volumes but I recently played a small outdoor gig with my Aguilar S210 Cabinet and I felt like I was pushing my cabinet crazy hard with my Stingray HH until I switched to my MFD equipped P-Bass. There were times I had my volume maxed out and watching the woofers jump like crazy. Not a great feeling.

I’ve played this gig in the past with my Tonehammer 500 and 8ohm DB210 and always sounded great and didn’t have to push the amp so hard.

I’ve read that the Demeter likes high wattage cabinets. Looking for something relatively light weight in the 2x10 or 1x12 form factor. High sensitivity and hopefully hi fi tones (compared to my vintage sounding Aguilar and Ampeg cabinets) would be open to interesting designs with 1x10s so long as it’s easy to carry. I just moved to a 3rd floor walk up!

Current max budget is around 1100-1200$ for a new cabinet. Would definitely prefer cheaper!

I've found a lot of happiness with MAS (Michael Arnopol Soundworks) cabinets in the last few years. "Small" gigs get the 110 that I bought directly from him as a "closeout," while "large" gigs get the Bodai 112 that I bought here on TB. The 110 can be shockingly loud. Both are driven very happily by my Demeter Bass 800D (very similar to your VTBP version). He seems to be forever changing designs, but I would seriously recommend giving a call and asking if he has anything ready to go. You can find him on facebook.

Rig prefs are pretty subjective.

I will just say that my Demeter heads are big time yin yang with the Subway SW112’s. Big time. As in, I’m looking no further. Excellent match, for my purposes.

Yup. My MAS Bodai 110 will smoke a 210 conventional cab, and my MAS 112 will kill ANY 112 and go toe to toe with ANY 212.

I had that head and loved it with the Barefaced cabs I had, including the Super Compact, BB2, and Two10.

The Two10 is $873. It’s more of a traditional cabinet voice.

The Super Compact is more of a FRFR cab but it rolls off a bit at the top. It’s still plenty bright for most applications. My preference with the SC and Demeter was to run pedals for a variety “preamp” sounds. It’s the same price as the Two10.

The BB2 is the same driver as the SC but with the added driver for the top end. It also has a bigger volume that allows for more low end than the SC. It’s also at the up of your budget. There’s also a BB3 that has slightly different dimensions to align with a full width tube head sitting on top.

The Two10 was the easiest carry for me.
