+1 on the Zoom units. Both the H4 and H2 are great deals for a large variety of recording. I got the H4 because I wanted the XLR inputs. I will probably pick up an H2 as well. The 4-mic simultaneous recording feature makes it perfect for recording rehearsals.

It's been mentioned that the Zoom H2 has 1/8" stereo input --- has anyone tried using it to record from the soundboard? I'm mostly interested in recording acoustically using the built-in mics, but there are times when it's easiest to just grab a feed from the board. Would this be a problem?

I bought the H4 last year and have had a blast with it. It has more features than I will use but it can't be beat for the price. My daughter, a flute player, bought the H2 and likes it as well. I don't think you can go wrong. The batteries last a reasonable amount of time but then I think it would be greener just to use the adapter that comes with it.

i use one of these (actually, an older version) from griffin with my ipod. works great for rehearsals and gigs. and for $50...
