Small Recording/Practice Setup for iPad Pro?

This is all great info/gives me a lot of rabbit holes to go down, especially on the software side, so thanks! Definitely nice to jump back into a community where the primary answer on a thread isn't some form of "don't you know how to use the search feature!? This has all been covered 1000 times, you moron."

It seems like the most critical thing is making sure that I have a USB hub to so I can power my iPad while using the audio interface/DAW or get and interface (like a Volt) that can accept external power as opposed to using the USB bus.
go with an external power supply unit ! USB when over loaded can be JUNK ! you are on a tablet so not much current for USB usually.

I've used this version successfully with just about any powered device I can throw at it (provided I'm using the appropriate power convertor brick with it).

Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter

Not sure which generation iPad you're using or if the dual port option is available for the newest models.

My iPad has USB
It works with every interface I've tried.
But check with the interface manufacturers for confirmation.
A powered USB hub will work not overly load the iPad
Yet I tend to just use an iRig 2. The stock iPad USB to Headphone adapter is an audio interface in itself. And a high quality one at that. The iRig 2 helps makes the connections easier to headphone, bass, amp as needed. You can find parallel Headphone/USB-C charger cables that work fine with iRig 2.

Lots of great responses here! I use my IPad as a backup for my HX Stomp. For my purposes, I chose a TC Helicon Guitar Pro. In addition to sending yor bass signal to the IPad, it has an amp out that can either go to an amp or right to FOH. Works well for me. On the IPad I run TH-U as my multi FX and amp sim. When I use this setup to practice at home, it goes into a small board with built in FX so I can put some reverb on my vox, then into a good set of headphones.

A little update. I decided to mess around with the Yamaha Soundcake I bought and managed to get it to work as an interface/record into Garageband.

Managed to put the attached track together last night in an hour and a half or so. The backing track (drums/keys) was from Reggae Bass Hub, then I added the bass recorded through the Soundcake with one of the Garageband amp/effect models, and then added some effects/loops on top to give it a Dub vibe. Definitely needs some work in the area of mixing mostly, but I really enjoyed the process of creating again and definitely want to do more.

Also, definitely look at getting a nicer interface down the road, and some better headphones, but since the Soundcake is battery powered, I don't have to worry about it draining the iPad while I'm working.

True dat. I find the recording questions interesting and since technology changes so often a, "search the forum" reply is not so helpful. Now if you were to ask about the differences between Precision and Jazz basses....... :vomit:

Hahaha, I started playing in 2002 and remember the forum conversations on those topics from back then. Doesn't seem like much has changed there. The technology side of things though is lightyears different.
