Smaller alternative to my NV610. Schroeder?

I'm well aware that set flat, Berg's and Schroeders are completely different beasts. But I'm looking for a rig for smallers gigs that can still get loud, and is easy to move around.

I'm looking at the Schroeder 1212L. Like I said, I'm not looking top duplicate the Berg's tone, but I'm looking for something that will go well with my SVT, P bass and give me a nice grindy vintage tone.

There isn't much out there. If this isn't a good match, can anyone recommend anything that's less than $700 on the used market? I would like to keep it under 65 pounds and pretty compact.

Those DB112NTs sound pretty dang good with a tube amp. A friend picked up a pair in the amazon blow out sale and I ran them with my V4 this past weekend. Lots of lows there, but without the tweeter they have that nice natural high end that sounded good with the tube amp a bit driven. Didn't think I'd like them as I usually find Aggie stuff a bit too stiff and modern sounding.

Seriously, the bergantino nv115 handles gobs of power and loves tubes. My super bassman 300 sounds fabulous through it, heaps of grind. As someone who has previously owned an nv610 and a couple of all tube svts I can understand what you are after. If you can, at least give it a try.

I have a NV610 and a HS410, and I can get the HS410 to sound very similar to the NV610, if your willing to lug a 410 around, then the HS410 is the way to go, I also have the Schroeder 1210 and I find that it just doesn't have the umph of the Bergs, granted it cuts through the live mix, but it lacks those force-full low mids .... IMHO

+1 To me, you get some of that 'sealed cab' mid warmth and punch and round tight low end with the HS/HD410 (the HD is the current model), and the advantage of a bit more low end extension and higher sensitivity in a smaller box. The HS/HD410 are direct descendants of the SA410, with was the ported 410 that Jim designed for Roger Sadowsky to pair with the all tube SA200. It was a masterful execution that vibed much of the things people liked about sealed cabs with all tube heads (controlled low end, very integrated through the entire midrange), but in a small and hi sensitivity format that worked well with the relatively lightweight and moderately powered SA200. The primary difference between that original, very tightly voiced SA cab and the later HS/HD is a slight extension of the low end to make them match up better with the typical moderate wattage solid state head. However, still kill with the big iron for sure. +1

I own a pair of the Bag End S-15D cabs. They are power whores...you can feed them gobs of it and they just take it and sound great. I generally run a Streamliner 900 into mine but also use them with my Fender Bassman 100T. I'll bet that the Super Bassman 300 will be an awesome pairing for them, even if the head won't fit comfortably on top of them.

This too! I have the NV610, a pair of HS210 cabs, and the NV115. I like the NV115 a lot, but even though the HS cabs are ported/tweetered I think they get closer to the NV610 vibe. The HSes have been discontinued for awhile now so they'll be hard to find, but as KJ suggested maybe the HD will get you there if you can find one used (I haven't heard an HD yet).

I'd look into Duke's Hathor 115. I know of one guy at least who has used them side by side and while he pointed out some differences, he was able to gig the Hathor 15.

* Bonus, it weighs about 35lbs and can be had for 700ish on the new market. Kringle did a video demo of both you could compare starting here:

The past two weekends I used my HS210 cabs because two of three gigs were in smallish rooms, and I only needed one 2x10 for the first one. Last night I used the 2xHS210 stack with my stoopid loud band in a decent sized bar/restaurant (not small). Our regular soundman wasn't available so our PA (weaker) was used for vocals and kick only. I was a little nervous about not having the NV610 there because I knew stage volume was going to get stoopid loud, but I didn't have to worry: the HS210 stack just killed. I kept the tweets rolled back but not completely off. Sounded huge even down low on my Bb string, and gave me great punchy tone.

I used just one HS210 last weekend (the smallest gig) and it was way more than enough... sounded great, had enough of the NV610 vibe to make me happy.

Check out Glasstone Lil'G 2x12 cab (4 ohm, 35 lbs., size of a 1x12, puts out like a 4x10). Also can be configured with 8ohm tens so you can build a 2x2x10 4ohm stack.

There's a big thread on all the Glasstone cabs around here somewhere. Oh yeah....here it is.
