Nope, either will do just fine, but it must be stereo. Or, you might be able use the switching type to do the same job, in which case you could get away with a mono, but the switch must "make", NOT "break" when the jack is inserted.

so if i want the cord to go in all the way i would just get either switching or non swtiching stereo jack? sorry for my ignorance
Not sure what you mean by that - perhaps I wasn't being very clear in those last couple of posts.
The simplest method by far is to just use a plain old stereo jack. Switching or not, doesn't matter, but the non-switching variety are cheaper.
You wire the battery negative to the 'ring' terminal and the circuits ground to the 'sleeve' terminal. When you insert a mono jack plug, it shorts the ring to the sleeve, connecting the battery to the circuit.

No, not really. What you are asking for is a pictorial description of where all the wires go, and aside from not knowing the exact parts you have, I'm not willing to put my own time and effort into gathering that info, downloading pictures and creating the picture - sorry to sound kinda harsh, but that's the reality of the situation.
What I suggest is that you endeavour to learn something by doing this project. Start by getting yourself a multimeter, setting it to it's 'continuity' setting and start working out which solder terminals are which on the jack sockets.
Ultimately this is very simple and you will wonder why you were worried about it. Once you've found the tip and the ground connection on one jack you are half way there. Then it's just working out the three terminals on the pot and the basics are done. As for the LED and switch, there's tons of info both here and elsewhere about how to modify existing pedals to add LED's that will have the info you need - you just need to adapt it to your project.
