Smashing Pumpkins Distortion - WHat is it?

Thick is right. Thick and creamy like a milkshake. I really like Try, Try, Try. Such a good song. Always brings such emotion.
I don't know much.. I only followed the pumpkins since Gish... seen them in concert over 20 times.. and met the band probably 11-15 times... to the point that Billy adn Jimmy knew me by my first name, and actually e-mailed me once asking me about local restaraunts.... but I've only seen her play jazz basses..Plus yes D'arcy did record Machina:THe Machines of God... she just didn't tour with the pumpkins..

Dude, you're lucky. I have a TON of live shows on CD's. I have every album pretty much. It's been a big dream of mine to meet Billy. He's an amazing artist. One of the greats IMO.
Love this band.
Everything after Mellon Collie, with the notable exception of a few Machina songs, was not really up to par. I mean, how could Billy abandon those wonderful guitar sounds?
Siamese Dream is one my all-time favorites. It's so atmospheric, whether it's that heavy-but-heartfelt guitar tone or the dreamy clean tone. And Billy's vocals...just...so good.
It's really hard to articulate how much you love something, sometimes.

A lot of the stuff happening after MCIS was due to the band being on the rocks at that point, and Billy losing his real mother (Adore era). I mean, having to kick out your bass player for drugs, same with the drummer earlier, it would be hard.
Yea his mother's death hit him hard... and the death of Jonathan Melvoin was the beginning of the End for the band.

Yea the keyboardist who died while doing heroin with Jimmy.. After that Jimmy was kicked out of the band and the pumpkins went downhill form there.
resurrecting this 12 year old thread because i can, billy confirmed today via instagram that the tone is a p bass into a crate practice amp. i'm assuming by listening to the isolated track () that the signal was split and its the crate combined with a clean di of sorts.
I'd say Billy played bass on the record, just a guess, but from things I've read. D'arcy wasn't very good technically in the studio apparently.
he also said that james and himself shared ALL the bass duties on the record
