Smoke damage cleanup

Hey very long time no post.
Had a pair of bass guitars at my parents and they had a fire Monday morning. No one hurt but the whole house has pretty bad smoke damage. Got there and took them out of the soft cases. Cases were wet with smoke water. Left them there for insurance cleaners to deal with but brought the guitars home with me. (don't trust cleaners and didn't want to leave them in a now abandoned house) Slight smoke smell on the guitars.
Best way to clean them? Wet rag and scrub or?
