Smoked Active Electronics

Well well it was such a nice day picked up a new bass amp for myself and decided to be nice and get some new batteries for my schecter. But uh WTH i change the battery plug in to my amp and start smelling a wierd electronic smell, lol idk how to describe it. Well I quickly took the battery out and it was burning hot. I tried putting in another battery and I think i may of short out my preamp:( does this also mean my pickups are going to be dead. Ugh I am so pissed right now because upon closer inspection turns out there was a little exposed wire in the cavity. I am so broke right now too and its the only bass I curently have. I am really hoping there might be a way to salvage any of the electronics or hoping i can find a good deal on a new preamp.

Chances are something in the preamp was shorting the battery itself, and the preamp may be OK when you resolve the issue. Maybe the + terminal of the battery (red wire) is touching ground. Don't lose heart. Strong flashlight and magnifying glass might help you find a short.

Does the bass have mainstream passive pickups feeding a built in preamp? If so, it would be hard to damage the pickups, I'd think.

yeah I hooked it up directly to the output just using the volume pot. Hey it works thank goodness. I guess ill be buying a new preamp. I suppose I will be getting a Bartolini preamp from the classifieds here. Oh well, its time for an upgrade for my baby, lol.
