Hey Joe, it sounds great. Some nice themes developed in there. Very 90's vibe.

I have a JV2080 loaded with 4 cards, I still get some great and specific tones from it. I haven't used the MC in decades, but I think I still have a MC-300 in storage.

Dawless? It had to get it into the computer somehow into some software, via an interface (or soundcard) (Logic is a DAW). You mean, 2 channel, non multi-track? Pre-mixed with the Tascam and played 'live' into Logic?

Wow, the MC-300 is the the one where you need to load the OS from floppy? crazy times lol

I love working with the MC-50, just great to work away from sitting in front of a screen, especially as i sit in front of one in my day job. Also, it makes me use my ears a bit more, not my eyes!

I recorded all tracks on the Tascam (about 24 tracks in total), you can move the printed WAV tracks over to your mac via a usb cable, i did this twice as the Tascam only has 14 tracks available and as the tune uses about 24.
I used tape sync to be able to sync the sequencer to the Tascam to record more tracks, although i have to do this anyway as the Roland only has 6 outs ( i normally just record one synth at a time as i use some outboard eq and compression and the Tascam only has 2 channels with inserts )

Then in Logic, everything is treated as pure audio tracks just for mixing. I mixed with a Wave's SSL channel strip and some Wave's API bus compression plugin on the stereo bus. Mastered using the built in limiter & vintage eq (kind of a pultec flavour).

Cool, thanks. Yeah Joe still have a few pieces with floppy in regular use just for the vibe of it. Slower workflow of course, but commitments are made in advance, destructive non 'undo' editing helps make decisions. Yamaha QX3 and my Ensoniq SQ80 still get used often. BTW, just for those reading who may not have the knowledge (no flame, no pedantry) - that is very much *DAW* based recording. If you were referring to the 'sequencing' (via hardware) then yes. Hardware is my own preferred method to sequence as well. But the tracks have to go somewhere once they are written to a disk. The method for getting the tracks into Logic is basically a personal choice, but the second you hit the DAW to mix, it's in the DAW realm.

So it's recorded DAWLESS & mixed in the box, but i could mix on my gear and i do sometimes but i dont have a limiter to bump up the db... any suggestions on a mid priced limiter, especially 500 series?

When i record 100% DAWLESS I have a $20 Beringher sound card that i take a stereo out from the Tascam and send to mac laptop and at that point it needs to record on something, it doesnt have to be a DAW, it could just be a simple software recorder ie not a DAW.

Oh cool you prefer the sequence on hardware, yea i'm with you man!

Wow, man those Ensoniq's are amazing, getting pricey now.

Just now looking at the Tascam 16, I see it isn't just a mixer. That is a full function DAW (HD storage, recorder, mixer, interface in one) Standalones are called an Integrated DAW, vs. computer based which are Software DAW. Both are Digital Audio Workstations. I have used all of them over the years from HD to Mini Disc. As for the 500 series, sure a few great limiters come to mind, but what is the budget? (BTW, I don't use MAC so nor Logic, but alot of my friends do and the Logic Limiter inserted on the Master Buss is very sufficient)

Ahhh i think i have the wrong concept / definition of a DAW, i thought it was only a software app like Logic / Pro Tols / Cubase etc. That makes sense, thanks.

I was looking at items from £1000 - £2000, I think Neve & SSL are a bit cheaper here in the UK as as you know thats where they are made lol (well, SSL is now made in china )

Well I can only speak from preference. You have alot of choices at that budget. I do have 3 hardware comps (Distressor, Manley ELOP and an original ADL Anthony Demaria Comp/Lim) but with your setup and that budget, if you are in logic mixing, I would find a UA device and use the powered plugins (The Teletronix, 1176, Fairchild, Tube Tech, SSL etc). The demo versions are unrestricted and generous in length, you can audition several before purchasing. The end result is very satisfying. I use alot of hardware reverbs with Cubase, but my primary limiters are UA or Softtube (I am running the console 1)

EDIT: Not to mention, the UA version will give some 'very close' sonic characteristics of the hardware versions you may be looking at.

Cool sounds!! They took me right back to when I learned music on roland jv/xp synths during the late 90s early 00s.
You have captured some great bass tones and phrasing, the bass as a lead instrument can be tricky, but you pulled it off. :thumbsup:

Thanks very much for taking the time to checkout the tune!

The lead bass as you say was actually a journey lol, i made a few attempts with a regular tuned bass but even with a hi-pass filter it just sits in the wrong mix position.. For this tune I converted a spare bass into a tenor, it had extremely high action so the recording was painful, the thinner strings just cut into my finger tips!Since i have bought a Fender trust rod adjuster, and lowered the action, feels much better now haha
