Smooth Jazzy tone

hey guys, i was searchin for pups for my warmoth build and i cant really decide on what i want. lots of manufacturers advertise theirs as having a nice aggressive tone, but i play jazz. I really like faster jazz like latin and fusion. anyways, i was wondering what you guys would suggest for that smooth, clear tone that im trying to get. any size shape pup is fine ( p, j, Mm ect) if you could reccomend some pups to examine i would be most greatful

thanks!:ninja:

I was looking at a build recently and asked a similar question and someone recommended I go with soapbar size because you can get them with any pickup configuration in that box. That would give you some swapping room if you didn't like whatever you dropped in there.

I'm liking the Quarter Pounders in my J. I had some Ultra Jazz's in them and thought they were too thin. Really liking the punch and articulate tone of the QP's.
I pulled QP's out of my P-Bass, OTOH, because they were too trebly for me. Loving the original '62 Fender P pickups in my P.
YMMV.
Good luck.

You may want to provide some sound samples of what you're going for. Do you know what body style you're going to get?

For a jazz pickup configuration, and your tone goals, consider Nordstrand NJ4SE's. I just installed them on a new build and they have greater articulation with a big, low mid tone and sustain compared to my experience with a few other jazz style pickups. They don't have much bite/growl/grind for jazz pickups, but they sound solid when playing fast fingerstyle runs.

If I was choosing pickups for a warmoth body, I'd consider the Nordstrand "Big Singles".

On this particular build, im doing a j or dinky j body. The nordies sound good because on this build im not going for the growl on this build i want it to stay smooth even if im playing fast runs. @slacker, arent qp's passive? while i love passive pups its not the tone im going for. Finally, if someone could direct me towards some good soapbars i would be most grateful.

edit, forgot to mention but im 16 so i cant spend more than about 200 on a set of pups
