Smooth Sublime sound

Just curious if I can get some help getting that smooth sound that the bass player, Eric Wilson, from Sublime gets. Very little attack in, for example What I Got or Date Rape. Does is do that with a compressor (what settings? I just got one recently), or is it the way he plays? I have a gig coming up where I have to play What I Got and I'd love to get closer to his sound (I have a G&L L2000, Rumble 200, and Seymour Duncan Studio Bass compressor).

What I Got: I don't think it was played with an electric bass guitar. My best Idea would be to use an OC-2 with only the octave and no clean sound.

Date Rape: I think the main thing here is the playing technique. I'd approach that with the amp set to a tone that would be quite aggressive, even with a mild drive active, and then play with very little force and pluck close to the neck.
