Im sure there are threads dedicated to what you speak of!I just missed out on a '75 Jazz Bass at Music Go Round Virginia Beach for $1,399. There are still deals to be had.
Honestly I’d rather buy a mint Am. Pro. jazz bass for that money ... not because I don’t believe that 70s jazz basses can sound nice but because, in general and unlike P basses of the same period, jazz basses seem not to age well ... of it is only my impression?

Sarcasm off: I've heard so many things about Fenders, some very absurd - but that Jazz Basses don't age well compared to Precisions...
This is about the most absurd statement about Fender I've heard in a long long time. But it's funny.

That is a beauty there my friend! If nothing else, at least '70s basses are so damn sexy! haha...seriously though I think its my favorite Fender era at least aesthetically....maybe more. Love the hand craftmanship of '50s basses but as far as aesthetics go, '70s win even if its a boat anchor.
Two beauties there! Late '60s/70's are by far my fav Fender era aesthetically.

Two clean 1978 dead stock Jazzes. Most recent one came from GC a couple of years ago for $1,100. I got the other one for $500 from a pawnshop. So for anyone who needs to think there are no deals out there... thanks for not looking.
Look at a group of pictures selected randomly showing 70 s P basses and jazz basses ... 70s jazz basses almost always appears to be much more road worn with a bad opaque resulting finish and a completely orange headstock ... this is the impression I’ve got with notable exceptions of course and I don’t know why ... I don’t like them aestetically in these conditions ... then, of course, many people like the orange headstock but to me this is a little too much in terms of natural relicing ... The orange headstock is simply because that portion of the headstock was nitro finished, while the rest of the neck was poly.
I understand but this is something that, with all the love and respect I can have for vintage instruments, will make it impossible to me to invest 1394 USD on a bass characterised by such a feature, although distinctive and typical of its age and history ... it’s just a matter of pure appearance .. maybe I’m not into vintage instruments as I was some time ago
Just give it time... in a few years, the 80s Fenders will be popular and everyone will again be dropping in white pickups in their Ps and Js!

I love the 80s Fullerton look with the white pickups! I coukdnt find an 83 Siennaburst P in good shape (my dream P) so I mod’d this 2013 American Special Honeyburst P with cream/white Dimarzio Area P pups and red tort. Love this bass! My absolute fav Fender neck neck and plays so well with flats + the Dimarz pups!
See the P basses ? They generally look in better shape as those of 9mmMike’s collection...
