So how did I do for first rig?

I would have commented on my previous thread but I got tired of looking for it. :p

Anyway, I kind of wasn't getting many responses on it so I figured I was on my own in 'building' my first ever major amp set up. I am not new to playing but new to building a rig (always jsut used whatever combo amp around that I could afford at that time) and here is what I ended up with:

The SWR LA 15 was swapped out even ($299) for a Peavey 210TX and I grabbed the Peavey Black Widow 15" cab I was eyeballing to go with it. A Digitech RB80 and an older Digitech distortion stomp box finishes this out.

I am sure that pales compared to some here but hows that for my first rig so to speak?

I'm a fan of the Peavey stuff. Heavy, but ti does the job. What amp are you using?

Im a Peavey nut too. ^_^ The amp is the TX210. Its a combo; two 10" speakers with a tweeter(?) and the head together. It sits on the Black Widow cab now. Sounds very nice IMO.

And yea its heavy!!! I think the combo amp goes around 100lbs and the cab is 75-85? I don't know what it is with Peavey and tonnage. I think thats what the T really stands for in the bass series; Tonnage;40, etc. :p

EDITAnd yea I seem to have the heavier piece on top but the cab is wider and deeper so it simply wouldn't work the other way around and I really don't have room to have them side by side right now. I hope the way the are set will be ok.

2x10's and a 15 will throw off some nice sound, and cover a good frequency range. :) Sometimes, that's all you need. For a first rig, very decent. You might "upgrade" at some point in later years, but i bet in 10 years you'll still find use for this setup.

Btw - the 2x10 combo by itself will likely be a great asset. It's small enough to fit easily in the car, a snap to set up, and great for small lower volume gigs where you don't need a towering rig to be heard.

I use a pv 210 tx, after a year of "farty" B string abuse, the sheffields jumped gap.
I replaced them with eminence kappa 10 pros. the good news is the cab sounds awesome, the bad news is that the cab now weighs 90 lbs. I keep shlepping it tho cuz it sounds sooooooooooooo fine.

Thanks for the comments guys. ^_^ Heres a pic of my new and first true amp set up and a killer old Foundation I picked up with the Cab yesterday:

And sadly, I am a basssist that has yet to officially gig anywhere (I have played for people before but its been just me soloing and for neighbors and friends who brings friends --other small gatherings etc) but I know I got my end of the equipment when it comes to it (small venue) and at some point it will.

210 + 115 = ....um, 325....no, AWESOME! :hyper: Don't worry about what everyone else has, if it rocks that's all that matters. I'll bet it sounds great.

FYI - My first 3 bass amps (35 years ago) were TERRIBLE, I'd have given anything for something of this quality.

LOL It does sound so awesome :bassist: And yea, I really had no idea WHAT I was doing when I put it all together :hiding: I read around here and asked a few friends here and, well that 'little knowledge is dangerous' really came into play here. :ninja: I am so stupid with electronics and I really was going in the dark here :D (I had no idea what a nice combo the 10s and 15 was..that was blind luck there LOL) But I took what little I thought I knew and built what a friend who helped me move it yesterday calls 'the titanic' sound system...BWhahaha...my back is killing me big time today thats for sure but it was worth it. My Torino moved the parts individually but no way I think that car could tote both at once...thankfully I have a car/truck (ranchero) to handle that in the future.

Oh and the only reason why I could swing something like this was, right place, right time in regards to the TX and I have recently sold some of my rare Transformers toys from the 80s to finance getting my basses set, fixed, rig etc...Im almost so broke now. One more thing to go and its done and my wallet is totally bare now...sheesh...but it was worth it ^_^

Man, If I took everybody's advice on here on "what rig to get" I never would have ended up w/ what I have. (Except the hard core Ampeg tube crowd).
You have to get what meets your needs. 90% of the people who respond are bathtub bassist.
Yeah I have and have had nice rigs, but around here, I have seen people tear it on on stuff I would not own.

Bathtub bassists. My first thought on that was 'I wonder how it would sound if I put my Ibanez practice amp in the tub and played....':p

I never got any recommendations on what head to get for that cab when I posted about it. And then looking at other peoples set ups was like O_o...

Its so confusing out there for a n00b with rigs with all the different brands and such that I finally settled by going with a brand I felt/knew would give me what I wanted.

Rock on Peavey :bassist:

And if anyone is curious, my total cost for that rig was: $434 :hiding:

Nice job for a first rig, Starscream! If it works for you, that's all that matters.:)

Now how much could you spend on a rig if you didn't have something like 10 basses?:p

Yea it works for me and I love it. And yea....I got a few basses running around now...sheesh...so not intended...I really really need to thin them out!!! Ive got 10 basses and a back up for the Cowpoke that needs to be squared away. Then its time to let go of 3-4 of them straight away. That will narrow it down to 7-8. Then from that point its going to be really difficult to choose which ones go after that.

I will keep your suggestions in mind for sure. The TX has casters already (with detachable wheels) but now that its the top part there shouldn't be a problem transferring the caster set up onto the cab should there? And vinyl covers is definitely on the list as soon as possible!

And yea Im a total Peavey nut(case) LOL so I knew I put something together that was for all time. ^_^

Oh and, bassplayertom77, I never plan on getting rid if it thats for sure!! ^_^
