So how did I do for first rig?

peavey rigs have been the backline for bar bands for decades and i have seen a lot of peavey bass rigs still being used on the country circuit. Also, unless your are playing arenas 210+115 is plenty for most stages. if you get an out door gig just run line out to the PA and all will be well...........rock on

My first rig was the same Peavey 210 TX Combo. I loved that thing, I got it used and it was beatup when I got it... used it for about 5 years... always got compliments about my sound. I used it until it finally died on me.

And that Foundation IS to die for. Its sitting in my lap right now. I have been playing it unplugged every time Im sitting in front of my laptop today. I thought my '92 was GREAT (well sans the red and headstock LOL) this early Foundation makes my '92 seem like chopped liver..poor thing...

When I took it for its first spin yesterday (And with the Foundation in the pic) I think I only had it 3-4 and holy crap!! Suweet....yea only now if I make a mistake EVERYone can hear it ROFL and my neighbor 4 doors down let me know about the flub I made on the star spangled banner (uhm...I am determined to play the star spangled banner hendrix style on a bass and have recently started working on it)...pffft...:p hey everyone hits something wrong sometimes ok...

My TX on better inspection looks like its seen some road use. It seems all cosmetic and Im sure I can take the cover off and repaint it and hopefully track down a knob for the control thats missing it (the shaft is there of course and it still works fine). Other than that it works great.

Was there any way to fix yours when it finally went? I honestly do plan on keeping my rig for the long haul especially if it can be repaired when something goes wrong and its not limited on what can be repaired if you know what I mean.

I was in college and an electrical engineering major at the time, didn't have money to take it into a pro but tested it and tried to figure out the problem myself. Never found out what the problem was, it juts powered up but never got any sound... for a while I ended up rewiring the cab part of the combo so I could use it as a standalone cab... and then ended up selling the speakers/horn on ebay.

To answer the ported question, if I remember correctly the 210TX Combo is rear ported.

Wow, hey did you think about taking it to class to use as the guinea pig?

Porting is holes in the cabinet - usually round, and big enough to put your hand through - but ported cabs could also have long thin openings, or other shapes. It's just common to see the large holes. If front ported, they would be near the speakers, behind the screen - which could be tough to see on some cabs. Rear ports will be very obvious.

I'll give the old Peavey gear my vote as well.
I've only been playing bass for about a year and went through the same information overload phase... ended up buying a ProBass500. This thing is a monster and built like a brick shi*house. Heaps of grunt. Goes down to 2 ohms so I've been running a 410 and two 115s off it and my guitarist with his marshall stack tells me to turn it down. I don't think I've got the master near halfway and we play LOUD.

Peavey gear can take a *lot* of abuse. And that is why they weigh so much. Everything is overbuilt.

I have owned some Peavey combos, I own a TNT160, and have used them as backlines numerous times, including once with a 1x18, 1x15, 2x10 monster! I have always got a good sound out of them.

Ahh so thats what that hole is on the cab to the bottom left of the speaker (you can see just behind where the bass is sitting in the pic). My friend helping me move that yesterday asked what that hole was and I took a guess and said it was there kind of like a release opening for the displaced air (not sure how to describe that) when its in use. Did that make any sense? And is that anything close to what its there for?

And yea, the TX has a port hole in the back about center with some really soft foam deep in it.

I was meaning to reply to this when you first posted it. Information overload was right. LOL Im not a new player but Ive been out of it for so long its like Im starting over again it seems. At least when it comes to the tech aspect of it. I never knew this stuff the first time around and truly never had a chance to build anything rig wise. Theres just so much out there it will have you dizzy before its over. :p

Believe me, I want to get a clip of me playing on here so bad for some critique and yea to give a sample how that rig sounds -- as well as /that/ Foundation. Its a growler! That axe has some 'tude :p

I just have no clue what software/hardware I need to do this....more information/choice overload LOL. I have a Dell inspiron laptop so thats a strike already as mac is best for this. My sales rep at Sweetwater keeps trying to sell me some mondo $$$ thing to hook up to the laptop and record and I don't want that -- least not yet.

Any suggestions? I know theres some program that was referred to me but that doesnt help me get from the rig to the computer....hey I just got a digital camera that can take small videos with sound....maybe that would do it?

My BF and I have been doing repairs on some of my axes that needed it earlier tonight and once they were done, I'd just get the E string on and then go test it. I've misplaced the power cord to my teeny watt Ibanez practice amp so it was the /monster/ I had to use...Yea volume ONE was as far as I could go at like 9PM with it without disturbing my neighbors (I live in a rather close neighborhood but still) LOL Never thought to unplug the cab LOL duuhhh

I was also playing through it this afternoon working out 'my' sound with it. This thing is just great. I hope my camera does well on the vid with sound so I can get a clip of this rig up on here to be heard.

That's the problem with getting a bigger amp... in a practice situation they seem to go from nothing to too loud just by looking at the volume too hard. :hyper:
