So I ordered shoes over the internet for the first time

I talked to them when I was trying to buy boots, but not since. They do not sell direct. I haven't had the time to call them about the issue at hand. I'm debating on how worthwhile it might be. I might try another pair, but I might just stick with in-store purchases.

The boots I was trying to replace are the same manufacturer and model as the ones I returned, and they fit perfectly off the shelf, which is why this mystified me so much. I've never hand that much variance, especially from a respected manufacturer. The boots I currently have went through a pretty bad blizzard with, all night long, and they stayed warm and dry the whole time. I will have to just call them and try to find out what's what. A very odd occurrence.

Shoot, that is a bit of a conundrum! Best of luck to you, I also have extra-wide feet and the search for a comfortable boot is a headache and a half.

I've been wearing cowboy boots for a long, long time now, since they're the only thing I don't have to wear @&*!#$* orthotic arch supports with. In my experience, they're about the only kind of footwear that must be tried on first before you buy them. I've had boots from half a dozen makers over the last 40+ years, and every single pair was a slightly different size. Even the ones from the same company (I'm partial to Tony Lamas). Personally, I've always gotten them slightly - slightly - snug over 2 pair of socks. For me, that means that they're comforable to wear when new (with 1 pair of socks), and they still break in nicely. Good luck with yours! (12 EEE?! Well, my Dad always said "A church needs a bigger foundation than an outhouse"..:thumbsup:) :)

I guess I will have to stay in-store for this sort of thing. I also have high arches, and these boots, before they got old, were absolutely the most comfortable footwear I've ever owned, as well as hands down the most durable. What struck me, and the reason for the thread, was how very different the exact same model of boot, four or five years apart, really were. Same make and model, same size on the label, same design, and not only a totally, vastly different fit, but visibly different, as well. I've never had an experience like that.
And yeah, I'm in no danger of falling over. And the name of my first high school? Big Foot.
