yeah i thought the bass w as a 34-36.25 realised shes a 37 on the lowest string after ordering but i think il get away with it still in the low 40s tension wise if not il just order a 135 and a 180 or something
should be ok be fun either way

Welcome to the E0 tuning club! Not so many members, I only know of one other (Skip Fantry, the guy who runs Kalum, goes even lower sometimes! I can't imagine the gear it take to reproduce, E0 is tough enough!)

yeah ive been messing about with a dadario 170 which kind of works so im hopeing with this it might be an improvement
part of a mad daft spend 400 quid modding a bass i only paid 200 ish for
theres a couple of others on here one guy with a fretless in e0
im tuning the first 4 as standard then repeating the a and e strings an octave down so e0 and a0 shouldnt be as silly as it sounds who knows il find out
i do wish i had a couple more inches of scale length though tbf

how much harder is fretless in such a low tuning? ive been playing about with a fretless 5 in the same tuning just missing the e0 [34 scale not much point in trying to go below a on that one i dont thing lol]
might have to upgrade to a fretless 6 for e0 fretless fun

I'm assuming you guys have probably seen this already, but if you want more scale, maybe try something designed like this:

is there a sectiion to post silly unusual builds/rebuild/mods? this instrument is a bout to be completely rebuilt leaving pretty much only the neck and body from the original instrument lol

so ive got the strings on and the new tuners [these two things have changed the bass into what it should be]
i can't recommend newtone enough I still need to get her setup properly but the new strings are just wow!!!!
well worth the money and the 3 week lead time [which I think is reasonable considering I asked for a set that was unlikely to be on the shelf]
all round very happy
now onto phase 2 which is get her setup and get this silly electronics and pickup section fitted

I've also been very pleased with Newtone - the only place I can get strings for my Emerald 30" bass baritone 12 string, they've also been very helpful with my annoying questions about string gauges and nut slot spacing for a couple of 5 course mandocellos I'm building / having built.

yeah i guess im going to leave the new nut issue to someone else im useless with that kind of thing lol its going to need doing though this string is sat ontop of the nut atm lol

The nut is probably cheap plastic. Use the string itself, part that would come between the tuner and nut, to file it down.

yeah it was plastic but its mostly cigarette paper and superglue now as i already had to fix it when the previous 170 i put on decided to take a chunk out of the nut lol
ive got some fresh uncut bone blanks that are big enough so il get one of them sorted out for it at the shop i think
its badly in need of a proper setup now
anyone know of any decent tuners that can register the low e0? even the one in my daw can only get down to f#0 i think and i cant tune at the 2nd fret as the intonation is miles out and i cant really do the intonation until ive got it actually in tune lol

ZenTuner seems to work down to the subcontra register. I haven't used it myself but it got the approval of Richard Bobo, a fellow subcontrabass enthusiast who is building his own extremely low-pitched instrument.
