So This Happened

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on an Ashdown Capri SS bass:

There were a few things that surprised me on this bass. The 20mm string spacing is a first and I'm surprised how much I actually like it. The pickup wasn't the one I was expecting [as seen here]. It plays really well, another nice surprise. You can see in the pic below that it has dime-sized pots - something I've never dealt with before - but they work well so I won't be replacing them any time soon, I hope, which is another surprise as I'm always tinkering with my basses. I did make one modification and that was to change the standard string retainer to a 3-string retainer [after the pix were taken]. Considering it came in at under 400 bucks I couldn't be happier.

I was considering getting one to be a brand puppet to go with my Ashdown Studio 8, so I’m very interested to hear your opinion after you stretch her legs.
I’m just a lowly hobbyist, so the Capri sits right at the top of my justifiable price point. Hard to find a place to get my hands on one in the States, however.
May I ask if you bought before holding or vice versa and if so, where?
It seems like the first impressions have been great thus far, so I hope that continues.
