Love vinyl. Have some, and a decent stereo setup w/ a couple of turntables, but I'm pretty much out of the game.
Mainly, we rent. I seem to move every 2 - 3 years. Hope to settle down and buy a home eventually but until then, moving large quantities of vinyl is a pain in the backside.
Also, I just can't afford it as a hobby. Scouring used shops you can find a lot of cool stuff for low $, but as much as I'd like to buy newer releases and resissues on nice 180-gram, I can't swing that. I was in a GC yesterday. They had some vinyl and sheesh--$50 for a copy of KISS Alive I. $19.99 for a Misfits album. $36 for the latest Mastodon release. Not that interested.
I do have a little collection of 7-inchers. Mainly instrumental rock/surf/etc from ca. 1955-1965. I still sometimes buy things to fit in this specific format/genre because I can still do it fairly cheap.
Now my old man is trying to downsize and he tells me he has 6 crates of classical and jazz on vinyl he wants to give me. I'm both exited and dismayed. I will probably cull the best stuff and jettison the rest.
Still, I feel vinyl is far and away the best archival medium for music, and the most sonically satisfying.
