Yes, because Jazz bass is a body style not a pickup configuration. There is a pickup configuration named after the Jazz bass original/typical configuration.

A bass with J pickups is not necessarily a Jazz bass.

When I was building “the last bass that I’d buy…ever” (insert comment here), I sort of modeled it after the Flea Active, but only by way of a Jazz body (albeit a Deluxe), a single pickup, and OBP-1 preamp. The rest is obviously different -
5-string
SD MM piclup
VVT and switches
and finally…BoomerBurst…

lane poor started selling them again so you don't have to buy a whole modulus for one now or get one second hand used for an outrageous price (there's a rumor modulus is essentially defunct again and that's why). It's still a ridiculous price but not in the absurd 1,000s like it goes for on reverb.

That's fantastic news. I have a Quantum 5 with og LPs in it, and no one can convince me they aren't the goat of bass pickups. Last time I tried to get a Legacy for a build, they were just not around.

Yeah I've got an original lp in a funk unlimited. Pairs nicely with the GK legacy amp. Use the presence switch and bump the bass up on the preamp and you've essentially got the Californication live era sound. Which has been uhh divisive to say the least lol. Still a great strong tone without the presence too.

I just saw a price of $675 for a Legacy pickup.
That’s $675 for a couple of magnets and wire covered in plastic. What is it that I’m missing about this pickup?
And I thought a set of Kloppmann Jazz pickups for $400 is steep…

Flea essentially admitting that the ideal bass for what he does, is a Modulus or Music Man due to the pickup placement. It was a long journey back to a big old humbucker.
